3/34 Burford Lane Aqueduct
II
Aqueduct carrying Bridgewater Canal over Burford Lane, circa 1770 by James Brindley. Red brick and sandstone. Deep segmental arch curving down towards centre under canal, has curved faces and abutments, of tooled sandstone to north and of brick (with springers and band backing the arch, of stone) to south, with straight band above. Curved batter to side-walls under archway, strengthened by C20 flush bands of concrete. Curved parapet to towpath on north bank of canal. Raised footpath under archway (east side) has brick side and stone paving.
