2/31 Bridgewater Street Aqueduct
II
Canal aqueduct over Bridgewater Street, circa 1770 by James Brindley. Sandstone and brick. Deep segmental arch of brick with stone springers and backed by stone band on each face. The archway curves downward towards centre under canal; the sidewalls under archway have a curved batter. Curved and battered stone abutment to north face. Similar south abutment has C20 concrete buttress on right side and battered retaining wall to bank on left side. Old red brick parapet to towpath on north bank of canal has plain stone coping and quoins. Raised pavement (east side) under archway.
