Bank. (see entry 5/76, also numbered 53 High Street). Late C19. Brick in Flemish bond with cast and rubbed brick dressings and details and polished granite columns flanking the entrance. Roof parapetted. Single storey with three-window range bilaterally symmetrical about a projecting entrance bay with prostyle porch and responds in Composite order. Entablature continuous across all ranges and returning in simplified form to the left. Some decorative details Gothic in manner otherwise the whole has a decidedly Italianate flavour common to bank buildings of this date. All openings flat arched. Entrance and doors of an original design the jambs subordered and moulded; windows flanking entrance with pediments. Late C20 brick wing to the east is specifically excluded. The Bank forms a group with the other No 53 & 55 High Street and the Victorian terrace walls and railings to St. Pauls Health Centre to the east.
