Description

The Hawthorn Lane Conservation Area was first designated in November 1997. The special interest that justifies designation of the Hawthorn Lane Conservation Area derives from the following features: • Hawthorn Hall, a grade II* listed building, dated 1698. • The 19th century street pattern. • The architectural unity of the area’s buildings, most of w hich date f rom the late 19th century. • The wealth of period detail e.g. tall chimneys, bay windows, recessed front entrances, gables and timber windows. • Prevalent use of red brick and a variety of other building materials typical of the period and style. • Dungeon Walk, an old footpath. • Distinctive local details notably the variety of gate piers and natural stone kerbs in Hall Road. • Front boundaries def ined by brick or stone w alls of ten supplemented by a hedge or other greenery. • Front gardens that contribute to leafy views along the area’s streets. • Quiet suburban atmosphere.
