Description

The Conservation Area Tabley House has been designated because it is of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, the character and appearance of which it is desirable to preserve and enhance. The boundary of the Conservation Area includes the properties Tabley House and its foreground to the south, St. Peter's Chapel, the Lodge Cottage, the Stable Block, the wooden pleasure grounds to the north, the walled gardens and Gardeners Cottage, 1-3 Garden Cottages and the Mansion Visitors Car Park. The designation of an area has several formal consequences including the control of the demolition of certain buildings, a requirement for consent to development which would not otherwise need permission; the need for consent to carry put works on trees and a requirement to advertise planning applications affecting the character and appearance of the area. A plan showing the full boundaries of the area, together with an explanatory leaflet on Conservation Areas, may be obtained from Macclesfield Borough Council.
